- Stock #074679 - If you like watersports and weekend cruising, you will love the Captiva 262 Cuddy Cabin. This is the type of boat that novice mariners dream of stepping up to and veteran boaters often scale back down to. Take me for example, Twenty-five years ago, I got started with a small, sixteen-foot runabout and loved to take friends out skiing and tubing. The only problem was, we couldn't take many people and often had to unload passengers on a beach in order to get up on plane while towing a skier. Over the years as our children grew older and wanted to bring more friends along, we worked our way up to 30- and 40-footers, but the bigger the boat, the more maintenance they required and less versatility they offered. Design At twenty-eight feet overall with an eight-foot, six-inch beam, the 262 can knife through some pretty rough conditions, yet it is just small enough to fit on a tandem axle trailer and tow it with most full-size sport utility vehicles. The hull is a descendent of the high-performance Rinker 262 Super Sport, which was designed with a bigger emphasis on speed than family recreation. For the Captiva 262 Cuddy Cabin configuration, the running edges have been tamed down a bit so that it stays on plane at lower rpms, can carry a heavier payload, is more stable and easier to trim. More specifically, Rinker increased the amount of hull surface area that remains in contact with the water while the boat is running. To understand the hydrodynamics that apply, consider this: a smaller running surface equals less drag and more speed, but also is more susceptible to bouncing and offers less control. The new Captiva hull cruises slightly deeper and more level than the previous Super Sport, and as a result offers a smoother, more predictable ride. Innovative Features On the topside, there are more improvements to help cushion the ride, including suspension seats for the driver and passenger that we can't stop raving about. The springs are built into the base cushion and the backrests are vented to help keep you cool in the summer. One of the most innovative features that we have seen in a long time is the flip-up front seat bolster. The front part of the seat, under the thigh area, flips up vertically, which increases its height approximately four inches. In this position, the cushion can be used as a leaning post while standing or a temporary seat that affords an unobstructed view over the windshield. It is fantastic for close docking maneuvers and looking back and forth while towing. Moving Aft In the stern, to the port side of the walk through transom, is a large sun pad for sunbathing -- another innovation that we highly applaud. Here Rinker incorporated a unique design that allows the entire back section of the sun pad to be propped up into a recliner that can accommodate three to four people. It is great for taking in the scenery and surrounding activities or just reading and relaxing at the dock. The Cabin Down below, the cabin has limited headroom for sitting around the table, but it is ideal for locking up water-skis and gear while away from the boat. The V-berth is spacious enough for a couple to overnight in or for children to play "fort" and steal a catnap, and of course, the porta-potty can come in handy in a pinch.
